Cleriq is a behavioral investing coach. It helps you record why you hold your investments and reflects your own behavior back to you. Cleriq does not provide financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. See our Terms of Service for details.

This Privacy Policy explains how Cleriq (“Cleriq,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects your personal information when you use the Cleriq mobile application and related services (the “Service”). Cleriq is owned and operated by Macbeth Labs, a sole proprietorship registered in British Columbia, Canada.

We handle personal information in accordance with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). Depending on where you live, you may also have rights under the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), described below.

We do not receive or store your full bank or brokerage login credentials, and we do not receive or store your payment card or App Store payment details. Those are handled directly by Plaid and Apple, respectively.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your financial data for advertising, and we do not serve third-party ads in the app.

3. Legal basis & consent

Under PIPEDA, we collect, use, and disclose personal information with your knowledge and consent, except where otherwise permitted or required by law. By connecting a brokerage account or entering information, you consent to the processing described in this policy. You may withdraw your consent at any time (see Your rights), subject to legal or contractual restrictions. Where GDPR applies, our legal bases are performance of our contract with you, your consent, and our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Service.

4. Service providers & third parties

We share personal information only with service providers who help us run the Service, under agreements that limit their use of the information. Our key providers are:

We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Cleriq, our users, or others. If Cleriq is ever involved in a business transfer, we will require the recipient to honor this policy or notify you of any change.

5. International data transfers

Some of our service providers store and process data on servers located outside your province or country, including in the United States. As a result, your personal information may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions, including lawful access by courts, law enforcement, and national security authorities. We take steps to ensure providers offer a comparable level of protection. By using the Service, you acknowledge this cross-border transfer.

6. Data retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.

7. Security

We use technical and organizational safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit, row-level access controls so each user can access only their own data, and secure server-side storage of sensitive access tokens (we never expose brokerage access tokens to the app). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Canada

If you have a privacy concern we have not resolved, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia at oipc.bc.ca, or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.

California (CCPA/CPRA)

California residents have the right to know, delete, and correct personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share personal information as defined under the CCPA.

EU / UK (GDPR)

If you are in the EU or UK, you may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We act as the data controller for the personal information described here.

9. Children’s privacy

The Service is intended for adults (18+) and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
